The Local Church
Paul addressed a number of issues in these letters that remain significant issues in the Church today. This project will seek to analyze local churches across this spectrum of problems addressed in 1 and 2 Corinthians and to find biblical solutions to these problems. Since you have now covered 1 and 2 Corinthians, consider your local church—are there any similarities? Which issues does your local church have in common with the church at Corinth? Project Requirements: This project will be comprised of a paper typed in MLA format, double-spaced, and at least 3 to 4 pages in length. Try to identify 1 issue from these letters that is at least similar to an issue in your local church. Specifically, explain the problem while refraining from naming actual leaders or members in your church, to protect confidentiality. Be sure to clearly illustrate how this problem relates to the issues believers faced in Corinth. You do not need to name your local church, but it should be the church you regularly attend or are a member of. Next, illustrate from the text of 1 or 2 Corinthians how Paul addressed the issue and how he recommended they resolve this issue. It is highly recommended that you consult commentaries, the class notes, and most of all the Bible. Finally, apply Paul’s advice to the Corinthians to your local church. How can these passages provide real-life solutions for problems in your church? Be very specific as you seek to make this application. This should result in actionable steps your church could take to resolve their issues in a biblical manner. You must consult at least 4 sources, which will be cited in a works cited page as per Modern Language Association (MLA) format. The Bible must be 1 of these sources, and your class commentaries may also be counted if you use them.
