Current Events Paper – Women in American History Step One- Identify a place or issue where you see a connection between the history we’re studying and the history being made today. In other words, pick something you think is really cool, significant, or interesting! Review all the material in this module then explore current events by looking at: Associated Press NPR BBC Christian Science Monitor Economist ProPublica New York Times Sacramento Bee San Francisco Chronicle Select an article from the list of sources above that directly connects to the topic you choose from the module. If you are interested in using another source, I only ask that you talk to me first and send me the URL to review. Please keep it current – within the last three months. Please do not choose an opinion or “editorial” article. These are literally someones biased opinions. You can also use Google Scholar and/or the library databases and choose a scholarly article from the last five years. If you use sources other than those listed above you will be asked to rewrite your paper using the approved sources. Please only choose one contemporary article and one article from the modules- keep your argument concise and to the point, do not try and cover too much. (I will provide pictures of the articles mentioned in the module so an article can be chosen) Writing Assignment -Provide a brief and concise, 2-3 sentence, description of the historical theme you are exploring and include citations from the course. -Provide a brief and concise, 2-3 sentence, summary of the news article and include citations. -The bulk of the paper, 90% of your writing, should clearly explain the relationship between the article and the historical theme. Do not simply summarize the past and the present, you must compare the similarities and the differences. Your paper must have a strong conclusion that supports your claims made in the paper. -Be sure to cite your evidence in MLA throughout the paper..
